SHORT WALKS

When: Monthly on Friday mornings

Our Group usually meets monthly on the fourth Friday.


These walks commenced again on the fourth Friday of the month at 10.00am (note time).        

Our First Walk was on 27th February 2026, meeting at L V Pinder car park, Windmill Lane. 

Fifteen members met for a stroll around the Lee Valley park and refreshments before returning to Windmill Lane.

PREVIOUS WALKS

JUNE 2025

For June's Walk we met at Cheshunt Station getting the Train to St Margarets Station where we walked along the Lee Navigation to Ware, a total of 2.5 miles.

MAY 2025

May’s walk was from Turnford Brook car park to the Lee Valley Farm. The walk was 3 miles in total with a Coffee break at the Lee Valley Farm midway.

APRIL 2025

April Walk:- We met at Pindar Car Parkand walked to and from the White Water Centre on a figure of 8 course totaling 3 miles. 1.5 miles each way with a coffee and a cake at the Centre.

MARCH 2025

March Walk:- 13 Short walkers had a pleasant walk along the Parkway (a disused railway line) from Highgate to Finsbury Park.

FEBRUARY 2025

February Walk, 11 Short-walker’s had a pleasant walk in the sunshine from Broxbourne to Rye House along the New River path, despite a tricky muddy patch for the last 50 yards, all enjoyed it and several stayed for lunch at the Rye House Pub. 

JANUARY 2025

Our January walk was on Friday 10th January 2025. Our first walk of the year was a circular route in the Lee Valley on a very cold day.  A lot of Ice on the Lee Navigation and the lakes. We enjoyed a coffee at the Wildlife Centre and returned to Pindar.

DECEMBER 2024

Our December walk was on Friday 13th December meeting at Cedars Park car park. We walked across the A10 footbridge past the Google Datacentre site and then down the New River towards the M25 aqueduct and back to Cedars Park for a coffee from the cafe and a mince pie from me! Total distance around 2.5 miles.

NOVEMBER 2024

13 Short walkers met for the November walk by the Rye House Gatehouse, for a walk through Rye Meads RSPB bird sanctuary and then a circular walk around the lake. On our return we explored the Gatehouse and grounds before going for lunch in the Rye House Pub.

OCTOBER 2024

13 Short walkers had a beautiful day for their October Walk from Pindar car park on a figure of 8 course to the White Water Centre and back.

SEPTEMBER 2024

13 Short walkers took the train to Ware and walked from the station to Hertford along the Lee Navigation. Despite me promising them the front page of Cheshunt's Newsletter, we still had no takers when we reached the signposted Naturist Swimming Spot around a mile downriver from Hertford.

AUGUST 2024

17 Short walkers enjoyed a walk from Pindar car park, through the Lee Valley to the wildlife discovery centre where a welcome coffee was served and then back to Pindar via Cadmore Lane.

JULY 2024

On the 12th July, 8 short walkers enjoyed a trip to and a walk around the Walthamstow Wetlands.

JUNE 2024

On the 7th June, 15 Short walkers walked along the Lee Navigation from St Margaret's to Ware, where some of us had lunch before returning by train.

MAY 2024

On Friday 10th May, 13 short walkers enjoyed a 3-mile circular walk from Rye House station via St Margaret's. The weather was great and several members enjoyed a meal at the Rye House PH afterwards.


MARCH 2024

March's Walk was along the River Lee from Pindar Car Park at Cheshunt to The Riverside Cafe at Broxbourne. We saw several Herons and even a pair of Swans mating, before we enjoyed a Coffee and Cake at the cafe. A total of 3 miles on a sunny but brisk day.


JANUARY 2024

16 Short walkers had a pleasant first walk of the new year from Pindar carpark to the White Water Centre and back via the Showground.


DECEMBER 2023

A good turnout for our December walk from Ware to Hertford and nice dry and sunny day to boot !


NOVEMBER 2023

Novembers Walk had 13 Short Walkers who dodged the rain and enjoyed a pleasant walk from St Margarets station to Ware along the Lee Navigation.


OCTOBER 2023

Nine hardy souls turned up for our last walk, a circular route from Rye House to St Margarets, via the New River and River Lee Navigation and back to Rye House. It was tipping down when I arrived, but before the walk started it stopped! I must have been behaving! All nine of us went to the Rye House Pub for an amazing value 'Senior's' Lunch.


SEPTEMBER 2023
9 Members had a nice walk from Broxbourne along the New River to Rye House where some stopped for lunch before getting the train back to Broxbourne/Cheshunt.


JULY 2023

11 Brave souls walked from Cheshunt Pindar Car Park to Broxbourne (2.9 miles) in the pouring rain on our July Walk and were happy to get a hot coffee at the riverside cafe.


JUNE 2023

Once again the rail unions prevented us from doing the proposed Hertford to Ware walk. So after meeting at Cheshunt station we walked in the Lee valley on a circular walk and finished up at the YHA cafe.


APRIL 2023

10 Short Walkers met a Pindar Car Park for a lovely walk around Hooks Marsh and Friday Lake, Despite a threatning BBC Forecast we only encountered a small shower and the walk was enjoyed by all.


MARCH 2023

A big thank you to Heather Douglas for leading our last short walk from Pindar and around 70 Acre lake on the 10th March, Despite the terrible weather forecast 6 brave souls turned up and enjoyed this walk.


FEBRUARY 2023

21 Short Walkers met opposite Wormley Free Church for a very pleasant walk along the New River up to Broxbourne School and then through the golf centre and up through Wormley Woods. We arrived at the Golf Centre Cafe/Bar much to the surprise of the single staff member, but he could not have been more helpfull and all were watered and fed as required in a shorter time than we thought possible.


JANUARY 2023

15 Short Walkers met at Pindar Car Park for a walk to the White water Centre on a beautiful sunny winter’s day. We enjoyed refreshments at the centre before returning to Pindar.
