29th April 2026
For our April long rides the weather, although windy, turned out to be dry and sunny.
The Challenger riders under the guidance of Paul headed out to St Albans and kept going (45 miles), riding through Gorehambury Park, the once home of Francis Bacon, Lord Chancellor 1618-21.

Following a puncture repair Paul guided us through a very busy St Albans and onwards to Stanborough Lakes where we had a rather belated lunch!
Returning through Old Hatfield our next stop was at Geoff's Farm where we were greeted with a welcome afternoon tea and cakes greatly appreciated by the group prepared by Sussie, Geoff's wife.

Suitably refreshed we then had a walk around the fields looking at the new born lambs and being educated by Geoff on the trials of shepherding! We eventually departed to return home around 4.30.
Richard's group rode down to the Tower of London.

There were ten cyclists on the ride and all went well.
Usual refreshment stops at Victoria Park, Tower Bridge for lunch and Olympic Park on way back.
The Walthamstow Wetlands were closed north at Ferry Road but nothing a quick diversion couldn’t handle.

Back at Pindar car park by 4pm after 39 miles so all good.
Some who missed the Royal Parks ride last year after I changed the date have asked about doing it again this year, so I was thinking about doing it on the next fifth Wednesday which will be in July. Anyone interested please contact Richard.
