Panshanger Great Oak

The Challenger and Steve/Allen's groups combined to ride to Panshanger Park in Hertford.

Paul Ashwell of the challenge ride, thankfully stepped up as pilot for us.

Panshanger Park is to the west of Hertford town and features the Panshanger Great Oak. The tree is estimated to be around 500 years old and may have been planted by Queen Elizabeth I. Winston Churchill also visited and planted one of the acorns from the tree in the surrounding park. The tree stands 65 feet tall and has a circumference of 26 feet.

Paul then guided us to Hartham Common Leisure Centre in Hertford for lunch, before returning to Turnford Brook.

Mileage clocked: 36

Duration: 4 hours 20 mins.
